Our Mission

Get Involved

Volunteers are essential to the function and growth of our Chapter. We always welcome new volunteers to assist with our Chapter events and day-to-day operations. There are numerous ways to get involved as a volunteer with our Chapter. A few examples include:

  • Office Volunteer: Assist with mailings, data entry, filing, etc.
  • Walk to Defeat ALS
    • Planning Committee:  Join a Walk planning committee and assist with organizing and growing the Walk in one of our nine cities across North and South Carolina.
    • Walk Day Volunteer:  We are always in need of some helping hands to assist on the Walk day. We need volunteers for everything from working the registration tables to serving food or directing traffic. We have lots of opportunities!
  • Care Services Volunteer: Assist our Care Services Team with various tasks (creating patient/ALS information packets, data entry, mailings, etc.)
  • Join A Care Connection: Join a group that is designed to help a family with their specific needs by sharing caregiving responsibilities among a larger group of people. This approach has aided many ALS families and community caregivers as they deliver quality supportive care.
  • Third Party Events: From time to time we are in need of volunteers for Third Party Events, such as awareness events at baseball stadiums, golf tournaments, etc. This volunteer position is dependent on where the event is located in relation to the volunteer.
  • Advocacy:  Each year in May, our Chapter visits Washington, D.C. to discuss and advocate for ALS funding, research and assistance for patients. We meet with our states’ U.S. representatives and senators to ask for their support on these issues. We always welcome new volunteers to join us each year on Capitol Hill. You can also get involved with our Chapter’s local advocacy priorities.

For more information or if you would like to volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator. She will send you a volunteer packet with an application. Thanks!
