ALSA Receives Excellent Rating
From National Health Council

November 14, 2005

The ALS Association (ALSA) has earned high marks from one of the premier healthcare trade associations in the United States.

ALSA is in compliance with stricter new standards required by the National Health Council (NHC) which represents 115 healthcare organizations and is trying to improve the health of all people, particularly those with chronic diseases and/or disabilities.

The new standards cover the areas of governance, personal policies, program, fundraising, finance, accounting and reporting and evaluation.

“The ALS Association has been a member in good standing for years, however, this past year the National Health Council set new standards for good operating practices that are very stringent,” ALSA Vice President, Operations and Administration Sondi Scheck said.

NHC was founded in 1920 and, according to its website, “established itself as a dynamic forum for policy development, the place where all segments of the health care community meet for reasoned discussion and persuasive advocacy.

Council members include voluntary health agencies, professional and membership associations, nonprofit organizations with an interest in health and business and industry.”

“We believe that our voluntary health agency members derive enormous credibility with constituents, donors and the general public through their adherence to these standards,” NHC President Myrl Weinberg said.
