Amanda Watson is Miss NC!!!!

June 22, 2008

Late last night I received an out of breath call from a very excited Butch Watson, (Amanda Watson’s proud father) telling me that Amanda won the title of Miss North Carolina. Like Mr. Watson, I cannot begin to put into words how proud we are of her! As most of you know, Amanda has been actively advocating with us for a long time. She has attended countless Walks, she and her dad held a golf tournament and she has given her personal testimony (having lost both her grandfather and great grandfather to ALS) to members of Congress. She even used her singing talent to perform at our candlelight vigil in Washington, DC.

Here is a brief summary of Amanda's involvement:

  • As the 2006 Miss National Sweetheart, Amanda used her title to raise awareness for ALS.
  • In 2007 and 2008 she used her title as Miss Garner NC to raise awareness and funds for ALS.
  • Just this morning she has already begun using her title (on the WRAL morning news) as the 2008 Miss North Carolina to talk about her platform, which is eradicating ALS through her involvement with the ALS Association NC Chapter and as an ALS Association National Spokesperson.
  • Next she will head to Las Vegas to compete for the title of Miss America in January.

We are so very proud of Amanda and we will do whatever we can to help her over the next year as she serves as Miss North Carolina. This could not have happened to a more beautiful, dedicated, loving and caring person. The ALS Association is truly blessed to have her in our corner and I am honored to call her my friend.

Please take a moment to read the story on WRAL News and watch the interview that was held earlier today- Congratulations and THANK YOU Amanda!!!
