Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act Passed by US House

This afternoon the House of Representatives passed HR 3, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act by a vote of 253-174.  The bill is similar to legislation passed by Congress last year that would eliminate current restrictions on federal funding for stem cell research.  The Senate is expected to vote on their version of the bill, S. 5, in the coming weeks.

We will keep you updated on this issue as the legislative process continues.  In the meantime, please contact Patrick Fritz (pfritz@alsa-national.org or toll free at 1-877-444-ALSA) if you have any questions about the legislation.  If you are interested in supporting stem cell research legislation, we encourage you to become an ALSA Advocate by visiting our "Become an Advocate" page and indicate your interest in stem cell research on the enrollment form.  The Advocacy Department provides topic specific updates to advocates who have expressed an interest in particular issues, including stem cell research.
